The port of Antwerp (Belgium) wants to augment its scheduled rail services to Central and Eastern Europe. After an international call to tender, three rail projects between Anterp, Austria, Czechia and Poland have been selected.
Over the next two years, B Logistics will create the Czech express, a direct rail link between Antwerp and Czechia, the shuttle operated as a joint venture between Rail Cargo Austria and Rail&Sea will be stepped up from three to five round trips per week, and Hupac will develop a new rail network with a range of destinations in Poland.
The port of Antwerp, which is offering financial support for the rail projects, set a new record in 2015 by handling over 200 million t of goods. (ben)
